 内蒙古大学生态学学士、中国科学院生态学硕士和法国蒙彼利耶Montpellier大学生态与进化科学博士。曾任中国科学院植物所研究员和新西兰皇家研究院资深研究员等职。现任内蒙古大学教授、生态与环境学院院长、蒙古高原生态学与资源利用教育部重点实验室和草地生态学省部共建国家重点实验室培育基地主任。长期从事陆地生态系统研究,涉及生物多样性和生态系统功能、气候变化和固碳减排、草地修复和放牧利用、生态环境评价保护以及生态系统模拟和管理决策等。发表学术论著180余篇(部)。讲授《现代生态学》《草地生态学》《生态系统模拟》和《新生研讨课》等课程。兼任J Arid Land副主编、Vegetation Classification and Survey和《中国草地科学》等编委。参与中国生态学会、中国草学会以及内蒙古自治区政府研究室(参事室)等社会工作。入选国家百千万人才工程,获中国侨联侨界贡献奖。
